it is about physics, these shooting competitions require a lot. A friend who is a competition shooter is a physics profesor and the math involved in the load, the conditions wind etc as well as the spin of the earth for really long shot is all calculated in order to put a bullet in a 3 inch hole at 1000yrds. That is insane.
this shit is borring. what ever happened to actually HOLDING your rifle when you shoot? this isnt a competition its mechanical objects doing what there made to do. in my opinion this is not shooting. shoulder your weapon and do the same thing and i will be impressed.

Why? Because since you are shooting BR, you are probably a fat fuck that has to sit down whilst shooting. Get prone, drop the mono-, bi, and tripods, and actually hold your rifle, then you might be able to pass as a proper competition shooter.
@DoMw4r im fifteen years old. the only reason i shoot benchrest is i love to shoot. i dont use the front and rear rests i use a bipod. I also hunt groundhogs all summer with my pap and guess what i use a bipod there too so just sayin if you dont like benchrest fine. Trust me i enjoy groundhog hunting alot more than benchrest but i love to shoot so i try every type of shooting there is
@158057 It goes like this.. shoulder/off hand shooting, people do some amazing things, but there’s a limit to the accuracy, and the rifle will always be more accurate than the shooter.
What benchrest does is force the human to comply with the requirements of the platform, so it puts rounds into as accurate a pattern as is possible. Look up Olympic style shooting and you’ll see the same thing. It’s different, but no less difficult, and these guys are making some incredible shots.
@DoMw4r You’re an idiot. Most of these bench rest shooters would not only beat you at bench rest competition shooting, but they’d embarrass you prone, supported, off-hand, and any other way you think you know how to shoot as well.
It’s like saying an F1 driver wouldn’t know what to do if they got into a NASCAR. These guys excel at benchrest because they put countless hours into machining and building the rifle, developing the loads, and perfecting their technique.

@158057 The impressive part is the prep: machining/building the gun, developing/testing the loads. Executing the shot is only a check of all that behind the scenes work.
Think of it this way. If a gunner uses a sight, a ballistics chart, and meteorological readings to drop an artillery round from a Howitzer onto a target 20 km away, first time every time.. do you not respect the engineering that went into the gun & ammo, and the skill of the operator to make it work as it’s supposed to?
