I wouldnt want to hunt with that thing!!!!
I’ve never seen a competition like this. Doesn’t even look like your aiming the rifle.
big heavy gun.
this is a rail gun so he already had all the settings in place before the match and didn’t need to adjust his aim during the shoot because the barrel is designed to stay in one place, its a rail gun and is unlike any conventual bolt rifle in this respect
seems like it would be a completly different set of skills required to do this, i mean hell it takes the number one thing (aiming) out of shooting….its maybe why a whole bunch of rich old guys are doing it.
Hunting? Then you’ll need not just such rifle, but also an APC with a turret.
I’ve heard someone compare this sport to top fuel drag racing. I think a lot of the skill is put to use before the match. Then it’s a matter of the shooter to put it all together in that 30 seconds. There is a ton of skill and discipling in load development, rifle assembly, choosing a good combination etc.
When I first saw this as a sport I was like that is a lot of BS. But after seeing the results that these guys do, I give them a lot of credit for such great knwoledge that they can put into such a dedicated precision rifle. I mean its disappointing to see the shooting not hold the rifle and hardly touch the trigger to fire it, but those rifles that they build and the loads they shoot are really mind blowing in terms of rifle precision.
I was down doing pit duty this past weekend, and I had to score for him…………..
Very nice setup. That bolt slides so nice. Very quick reloading.
Top shelf system! looks a little above my pay grade $. How tight was the group?
agreed. i don’t want to seem rude but i don’t see the skill involved. it seems you don’t need to control the trigger pull or breathing.
i may be mistaken but i’m guessing the skill is exhibited in the set up, correct?
is this a competition of most accurate rifle? or most accurate shooter?
please enlighten me, i’d like to learn.
Technically a rail gun is a return to battery benchrest rifle, this rifle is not a rail gun, its a heavy gun. The differences is this rifle is separate from the front and rear rests, a rail gun has an integral rest, which eliminates the human handling error factor.
@a7xkaseya7x It doesn’t take aim out of the equation, you still have to dope the wind at a 1000 yards (or meters, whatever the case may be), which is no small feat. The other skills required come into play before the match even starts, construction of the rifle,as well as developing and consistently reproducing a load for the rifle.
It isn’t cheap though, you’re right about that. I wish I had the money to get into it.
troppo veloce! falla raffreddare la canna!
I should head out there sometime, I think it’s only about and hour and a half from me.
Looks more like a mini artillery set up. Fun! I could’ve taken over and still hit the target!
look at that skill…pull trigger, eject spent cartridge, load a new one, pull trigger, eject spent cartidge, load a new one, pull trigger….
does this sport really exist? my opinion, i think it is a little bit boring after a time
But it look me great if i may shoot sometimes
@kumquatsta Most accurate rifle and load development. That’s the focus of benchrest.
The trigger pull still needs to be smooth and straight back. Guys in benchrest are excellent shooters, it isn’t as though they wouldn’t be able to hit a barn with an M1 Garand if you put it in their hands.
@contrarianbastard No wind reading required…thats why they shoot so damn fast…they fear the wind and arent good at doping wind so they fire in a set condition as fast as possible BEFORE it changes on them.
what rest are you using?!
I guess this fits the definition of a picker.
@Kramer10205269
Let me guess you have a savage in 35 whelen that does this “all day” as long as you do your part. LOL
